Beautiful colored Silky Chickens

What was your first Pet? Was it a Dog a Cat a Fish or maybe a Bird?

Who would have thought a chicken would make a great Pet! Well surprisingly they do.
Of course some chicken breeds make better pets than others but it all comes down to personal choice and the right information at hand to make the right decision.

Chickens are very affordable to raise and low maintenance. As with any pet there is an initial outlay to get you started such as a chicken coop with run, laying boxes, bedding, feeder and waterer but after that all you need to do is keep their protein feeder and waterer topped up a couple of times a week, give them some of your left over food scraps  and let them free range around the yard picking at anything they like to eat.

One of the fun things about starting your journey as a new chicken owner is setting up the chicken coop for the chickens to be housed. There are a few options here when it comes to chicken coops, you can buy one ready made or you can get the whole family involved and buy chicken coop online and put it together yourself or if you are real handy you can purchase a set of free chicken coop plans from our online store, purchase the materials and build one from scratch, the choice is yours.

Chickens each have a personality of their own and you will enjoy watching their quirky and funny antics. Chickens are soft and cuddly to hold and the children will have fun playing with them on a daily basis.

Your children will love giving their new pets a name of their own and owning chickens is a valuable life lesson in teaching children caring, respect and responsibility.

Chickens come in a range of breeds, shapes, sizes and colors so before you purchase make sure you check out our website for the right information and requirements that suit your situation.

Chickens are very social animals and don’t like to be alone so we would recommend keeping a minimum of 3 chickens together in your backyard.

The best part about keeping chickens is that you get a fresh supply of eggs on a daily basis and  is a great excuse for the children to mingle with the chickens while they collect the eggs.

Six chickens will supply an average of 4 to 5 eggs per day so there will be plenty to go around for family and friends.

I hope you enjoyed our brief overview to get you started. Make sure you stay tuned to our website for regular information updates and if you have any questions please let us know as we want to make your backyard chicken experience enjoyable.
